Day 481

Day four hundred eighty-one
February 27, 2014: I’ll admit it, I thought I was something special, something unique. But alas, it turns out my personality is the most common of all, (particularly in men). I am ISTJ.

Day 480

Day four hundred eighty
February 26, 2014: Nothing exciting happened today. I read some, finally printed up a book I had been meaning to, wrote some, school, blogged. Nothing too interesting. A nice day nevertheless.

Doctor Who Bead Scarf

Does anyone have a good name for a scarf made out of beads? Thinking about it it really isn't a scarf, it is more of a weird necklace, but the only two names I could come up with was either a sead or a barf, neither of which is particularly attractive.

Anyway, I have made a Doctor Who bead scarf thing. For any of you who don't know, Tom Baker's protrayel of the Doctor included an impractically long scarf. The story goes that costume designer James Acheson wanted a scarf for the Doctor, and when he gave his friend Begonia Pope the yarn, which did not stop knitting until she had used all of it, making what is probably the most iconic piece of Who accessories ever.

I saw, here and there across the internet, bead scarfs made in roughly the same pattern. )Though I never found anyone offering instructions on how to make it.) I decided, as a fan of the show myself, that it would be fun to make one. I have a bead loom, which I love to make things one, but it is rare that I can think of something to make on it that I will actually use. So when I decided I had the funds I would make one.

I based my own scarf on the pattern you see below.
I liked this one the best, because I don't know, it seemed the most true to the iconic scarf and the easiest to follow. In all honestly you probably don't actually need a pattern, it just makes things easier.

Having found the pattern, next I needed to purchase the beads. Living in a small town there really aren't any bead stores in town, the best I had was a Hobby Lobby. Since I needed a large number of seed beads, in rather specific colors, I wanted something with more options that what I could find at a store like Hobby Lobby. So of course I turned to the internet (like I always do). I found this great beading site called Fusion Beads. Seriously, if you like beading you should check it out. After browsing their selection I finally decided on my seven colors. I've listed the item number with each color if you are interested.

Purple-SB1501
Off white-SB2052
Brown-SB2448
Yellow-SB1530
Red-SB2605
Green-SB2497
Blue-SB2497

Now all I had left to do was actually make it. As my bead loom is only about a foot long, I had to be creative with how I made the bead scarf. My initial idea was to it in several parts and sew them together, but I didn't want all those seams, so I worked it out in a different way. If you look carefully at the first picture you'll see a bunch of string off to the side of the loom trailing off the table. I cut each piece of string to be about twice as long as I wanted the bead scarf to be, folded it in half, and then tied it to the loom. As I finished one segment, I would untie the ends, move it down, safety pin the already beaded end of the scarf down, and retie to loose ends.

All I did was half the number of rows-so 2 rows in the pattern meant I only did one row on the bead loom.-and other than that I stayed true to the pattern I found. I also used all 11 sized beads, with 9 beads in each row. With these specs my bead scarf came out at about 62 inches (157.5 cm) long and 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) wide. So still quite long, but not outrageously so.

And here are some pics of my modeling the Doctor Who bead scarf. Yes I am in a bathroom. I also tried to enlist my sister for some full body shots but as always she proves what a bumbling photographer she is.

I am being lovely

I am trying really hard to get a full view
of the scarf, also I realized I am in
the bathroom.

Trying a different way to wear the scarf.

Day 479

Day four hundred seventy-nine
February 25, 2014: Colleen got her braces off. They sang her a song and gave her a bag of candy. It was the whole happy celebration. I remember when I got my braces off. I was told I should probably schedule a dentist appointment to fix a chipped tooth and to whiten my teeth. Also no one noticed that I had gotten them off.

Day 478

Day four hundred seventy-eight
February 24, 2014: I have misplaced my water bottle…again. I think I left it at work…again. Guess I will have to die of dehydration now. Life is kind of lame like that.

Sunday, February 23, 2014

Day 477

Day four hundred seventy-seven
February 23, 2014: Sometimes I wonder why I do this. Sometimes it feels like it is nothing more than a chore and it cannot be that interesting to read. So…I don’t know. Maybe it will provide invaluable information to some later generation. It was warm today.

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Day 475 and 476

Day four hundred seventy-five
February 21, 2014: I could not get to sleep last night. I was wide awake until about 3. I don’t know why I would have been awake. I had not eaten or drunk anything energizing, I wasn’t hyped up. I can usually fall asleep any time, even if I am not tired, but I could not last night. So instead I did school.

Day four hundred seventy-six
February 22, 2014: I have had the songs from Frozen stuck in my head all day. The younger siblings were watching them on YouTube and so of course I had to watch the songs with them. I am twenty years old! I should not live kids’ movies this much still, but I do.

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Day 474

Day four hundred seventy-four
February 20, 2014: I love thunder storms. I know they cause a lot of hassle for people and in some areas there is going to be hail but where I am it isn’t too bad. There is just something a little frightening, and beautiful about them. They make me feel safe and vulnerable.

Days 468-473

Day four hundred sixty-eight
February 14, 2014: Happy Valentine’s Day to all you happy couples out there. Don’t get too sappy on us. By the way, you should know that Valentine’s Day is named after a priest who got beheaded. Isn’t that romantic. Also, no, world at large, I am not in a relationship, I am not interested in anyone, so you can stop asking. It is not that I mind so much not being in a relationship, it is the fact that people seem to think I should be sad and trying to be in one.

Day four hundred sixty-nine
February 15, 2014: I am feeling it hit me today. Yesterday my shift was supposed to be from 12-6. Well, the person who was supposed to close in women’s was unable to come in, so when the mid-shift person for woman’s left I closed over there. So yea, a nine hour shift followed by opening today.

Day four hundred seventy
February 16, 2014: Not feeling it today.

Day four hundred seventy-one
February 17, 2014: Finished my Doctor Who beaded scarf. It looks fabulous. The perfect chic geek accessory. Now, I need to wear it in a public place and see who comments on it. Anyone who does is awesome.  Honestly I spent pretty much all my free time today on it.

Day four hundred seventy-two
February 18, 2014: My days fluctuate between I-have-way-too-much-time-on-my-hands to I-can’t-even-breathe-with-how-busy-I-am. Today was of the latter sort. Lots of school, and work, but as the next few weeks of school after this one will be light ones, and work hours are pretty slim, I truly believe it will be the former soon.

Day four hundred seventy-three
February 19, 2014: It was warm today. Last week we had snow and stuff, this week, not a chance. The funny thing is, despite it being in the 40’s most of the day, the people who came into JCP yesterday were still saying “It’s a cold one today.” It wasn’t really. The problem with small take is that I have literally heard everything you could possibly say, no matter how you say it, and I have still heard it dozens of times already, that day, even if I’ve only had half a dozen costumers.

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Day 467

Day four hundred sixty-seven
February 13, 2014: I am not sure if I was just cranky today, or if everyone at work was more annoying. I can’t really tell. All I know was that pretty much everyone I came in contact today made me seethe with impatience and bitter annoyance.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

Day 466

Day four hundred sixty-six
February 12, 2014: School was cancelled, church cancelled Wednesday service, and several people have already called out for tomorrow at work. Why, you ask. For about a millimeter of snow. And why, out of all the possible types of food that you should stock up on if you fear the power going out and having to stay in the confines of your home, do people go out and buy milk and bread? Honestly if these people are worried about staying fed through the disastrous storm shouldn’t they be buying canned food?  You know, food that will…keep? And if you are going to buy milk, buy evaporated and condensed. Those have a longer shelf life. Also, if you’re going to buy super fluffy white bread (literally the only kind of bread you can purchase in the South, apparently) just buy glue, it also has a longer shelf life.

My Many Attempts (and Failures) at Social Networking

Social networking, we all do it. In fact, I am more or less doing it now. (Not that anyone else but who I live with reads this blog but there it is.) It is that wonderful thing were there is a network of social people, mostly today used in the context of online social networking. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr. Sites that connect you with people and are fun and easy to use.

And that's were I come in.

Me, online social network would be better described as online social failures. Recently I have joined "the" Facebook for the fourth time. But hold off on you judgement, my dear readers. Unlike most people, when they "leave" Facebook, it is a voluntary action, with them rushing back after a few days of abstinence. This makes many, including myself, sigh and roll our eyes just a little bit. I, on the other hand, was forcibly kicked off, three times. Okay, so now you can judge, but judge appropriately.

The first time I was kicked off, I am fairly certain it was because they thought I was the sort of criminal that preyed on teenagers. Some back story on how I came to this conclusion, because, just to let you all know, I am not a criminal that preys on teenagers.

When I was kicked off, it was with no warning whatsoever. In the morning I logged into my account, by the afternoon I could not. There was no explanation as to why this had happened, and I even contacted Facebook about it. I never received a reply. Understandably, I was annoyed, and I know all of my faithful followers were furious. Curious to get to the bottom of this confounding dilemma, I did a little research online.

Apparently Facebook often kicks people off. Usually because they are doing too much social networking. Things such as loading up pictures, liking other pictures, asking for friends, those sorts of things. The programs designed to find robots and terminate their accounts look for this kind of behavior, not discriminating against people who do the same thing. (I am not sure what the problem is with robots being on Facebook, or on the internet at all. It seems rather discriminatory.) From what I found there, the people always got a warning, something along the lines of "Stop your excessive online social networking or we will terminate your account. If you stop you will prove you are not a robot, and we will not kick you off." (Wait, maybe it isn't robot discrimination, maybe its just Facebook's way of telling you to get out more...) Anyway, this common reason for being kicked off is because you are acting like a robot.

I received no such warning. And while I did have a dedicated collection of friends, I highly doubted I did enough on Facebook to warrant being called a robot. I did a little more research. Apparently, accounts where Facebook just ends you, are when they do not suspect you of being a robot. In fact, it is when they suspect you of being a human. A criminal in fact, and one that plans on doing some very serious crimes at that. Anyone who knows me knows I look for rules to follow and laws to obey sooooo, why me? Well apparently putting down a high-school i you did not actually go to is enough be be "suspicious." In fact, even if you are not a criminal, putting down the wrong high-school can still be enough to get kicked off. Since I was home-schooled, I put down something really weird, I can't even remember what. Something stupid like "my bedroom."

I have no proof that was why I was kicked off, that is only my very best guess.

And then the same thing happened...again.

I contacted Facebook again after the second time I was kicked off, explaining to them even my suspicions as to why I had been kicked off the first time. The actually replied back to me this time, apologizing, and they gave me my account again, (the second one, not the first one.)

The third time I am pretty sure it was from non-use. I mean, I would go to Facebook, and see what other people were up to, but I would not do anything myself. So I mean, that one was kind of my fault.

And because I liked being kicked off of things, I joined a fourth time, just for the fun of it.

I also joined Twitter a couples years back. Despite having only made 7 tweets total they have kicked me off yet.

Day 465

Day four hundred sixty-five
February 11, 2014: From day to day, nothing changes, and we seemed trapped in a world where life goes on. We think change will happen in one rapid moment; that we will blink and the entire world will shift behind our closed eye lids. Maybe, every once in a while, change is like that. Yet most of the time, it comes unbidden, without us knowing. Moments, insignificant little moments, that build to something beyond what we ever reckoned with.

Monday, February 10, 2014

Day 464

Day four hundred sixty-four
February 10, 2014: Forget it. Last night was the second time I have had dreams becoming a comidian. I have never had dreams of actually becoming anything else, (like literal dreams, while sleeping, no hopes and assperations.) Maybe I should just forget the whole accountant/aspiring author thing and become a comidian. I’m funny, hysterical even. Just because I’m usually the joke should not stop me.

Day 462 and 463

Day four hundred sixty-two
February 8, 2014: Woke up today to snow, and it continued to snow. A part of me was really wishing it would snow enough that work would be cancelled (it probably would have only taken three inches or something.) It was the second day out of the two days I was working this week, yet an entire Saturday off might have been worth it.

Day four hundred sixty-three
February 9, 2014: Today much happiness happened. I found a tube of Chap Stick that I thought I had lost. It was in the pocket of a sweater that I had put in the wash. I don’t know why but I was so excited when I found it, it was like extra Christmas or something. Much unhappiness also happened. I finished the Gregor the Overlander series. Anyone who has read the series will understand.

Friday, February 7, 2014

Day 461

Day four hundred sixty-one
February 7, 2014: Just got back from five and a half hours of studying the first six chapters of Genesis. It was quite riveting…no really, it was interesting if you like that kind of thing. Since I am such a nerd I do like that kind of thing so I enjoyed myself. There was not as good of a turn out as I was hoping, (and I suppose the staff was also disappointed.) Supposedly the church is going to have another one about Revelations. Fun stuff.

Thursday, February 6, 2014

Day 460

Day four hundred sixty
February 6, 2014: Why are commercials for men’s perfume, (fine, cologne, whatever, though the actual difference is the concentration of oils and the number of notes and stuff) so just, you know, like how they are. You know exactly what I am talking about. One second into a guy’s cologne commercial and everybody watching already knows what the trippy, vaguely unsettling black and white with all of the European looking, half naked men montage is selling. Valentine’s Day is coming up, so, lots of men’s cologne commercials.

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Day 459

Day four hundred fifty-nine
February 5, 2014: Basically another day of school. Tomorrow will be work, and school for some variety. I guess I shouldn’t complain, I had a bit of time for some reading and to work on my Doctor Who beaded scarf.

Day 458

Day four hundred fifty-eight
February 4, 2014: I before e, except after c is both a weird and insufficient rule. Like seriously. I just wish people who write spelling books would just admit that English treats spelling rules like guidelines. I just felt like I should say that. My complete hate of how the English language is spelled is a significant part of my personality and I am not sure if I have written about it yet.

Monday, February 3, 2014

Day 457

Day four hundred fifty-seven
February 3, 2014: I realized today that I can type my first name just using my left hand. I mean, of course I can type anything really with just my left hand, but just hitting the keys that I am supposed to hit with my left hand I can type my name. Also worked on my taxes this year. For some reason I forget each year that since I am a dependent, I don’t really have any deductions.

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Day 456

Day four hundred fifty-six
February 2, 2014: So I was washing my hands just now and the soap dispenser is getting pretty low on soap. I was pumping it rapidly, basically smashing the head down. I cupped my hand underneath the nozzle, awaiting the few drips of soap I was sure was all I was going to get. Suddenly, a large glob of soap shot out of the dispenser and flew forward, perfectly parallel to the ground. I am not sure how long it would have continued its horizontal trajectory, for it smacked into the front of my dress. And that concludes the most exciting thing that happened to me all day.

Saturday, February 1, 2014

Day 455

Day four hundred fifty-five
February 1, 2014: It is getting warm again here. For the past week or so it has been pretty cold, about the temperature I would associate with winter. Now it seems to be warming up to what it is supposed to be in winter.
