Days 489 and 490

Day four hundred eighty-nine
March 7, 2014: I had something I was going to write about today, but I kind of forgot what it was going to be.

Day four hundred ninety
March 8, 2014: Was actually looking at some publishing houses today. I don’t know why. Guess I decided I should just start researching different places I could send some of my work to before I try self-publishing. Found a couple I might want to contact.

Day 488

Day four hundred eighty-eight
March 6, 2014: Sometimes I look at the world and wonder “What is wrong with people?” Then I take a long look into my inner most mind, and I wonder “What is wrong with me?” Chicken arrows. I kid you not, that was the main topic of discussion at dinner tonight. The probability of using chicken as arrows, and what traits about them you would have to breed in order to make them actually work as arrows. And then Abi found a video of a man actually using a chicken as an arrow and I don’t know what has happened to me. Also I finished a story about some pets I had once, cannibalistic hamsters.

Blind Date with a Book

So I have seen this here and there across the internet. A blind date with a book.
The idea is simple. A library or book store wraps up a book in paper, usually it seems to be brown packing paper, then clues are written on the outside. The idea is that you either check out or buy the book without knowing what it actually is. I always thought this was a neat idea. It may be a bust, but it may get you something you love. Either way it can get you reading what you normally don't read.

Our library was doing this, so I went a head and picked one up.
Judging from the clues, I thought it was going to be some science fiction book about a secret brother-hood and when one kid gets involved his life changes. It was not that at all.
No, it was Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel, a book about a family that adopts a chimp in an attempt to teach it to speak sign language. And of course the kids grows attached, and then disobeys his father when they need to get rid of the chimp.

A touchy-feely animal book. My favorite.

I considered not reading it, I really did. I'm glad I went ahead and read it. It may not be more cup of tea, or my shot of whisky, or the kind of book I routinely like to read. It's just animal books like this tend to bother me just a wee little bit. See, I don't really like animals, so a lot of the time I sympathizes with the evil character in the books. I would never hurt an animal, mind you, but I don't get attached to them either. It's kind of like an atheist reading Frank Peretti. I can enjoy the story, but it still kind of bothers me and I can never really be friends with the protagonist.

It got me reading something I usually would not choose though, which is the whole point to it ultimately, and the book was good, as far as touchy-feely animal books go. I have read better, but then again I have read way worse. Definitely something I will do again.

Days 484-487

Day four hundred eighty-four
March 2, 2014: Had an entire weekend off. I guess I make up for it next week by working the entire weekend. It was nice though.

Day four hundred eighty-five
March 3, 2014:  This is so hard. I have nothing to say. I never do anything, and I do not want to talk about the weather.

Day four hundred eighty-six
March 4, 2014: Closing still feels weird. For a long time I wasn’t getting any closing shifts and it feels weird.

Day four hundred eighty-seven
March 5, 2014: Picked up an extra shift, because I really, really need the time. I’m not too good at talking people into doing things so I don’t do many of the things that makes the store look good. You know, credit applications, surveys, add ons. Those kinds of things.

Day 482 and 483

Day four hundred eighty-two
February 28, 2014: Closed. It has been so long since I have been scheduled to close. It felt kind of weird actually, to go in in the afternoon.

Day four hundred eighty-three
March 1, 2014: Ate pizza and watched TV with my younger siblings. I know how to spend a Saturday night.
