Being a total book geek this one was really hard for me. There were about a billion "favorite" books for me to choose from. (No, I am not exaggerating.) I eventually decided on Inkheart by Cornnella Funke because it combines several of the things I look for in a book. Original idea, well drawn and believable characters, well paced and interesting plot. Last but not least, it is a "realistic" fantasy. Most people would consider that an oxymoron, but it is possible when the author takes all the elements that make up a book and uses them in a very believable way. From the way the characters act, to the way the plot moves, those things make the concept of magic more believable if they themselves are believable. As well as all those things, the book is simply enjoyable. I love to read it with a cup of coco on a cold winter's night, as a good summer read, or any time of the year.
